Really, it's down to your preference:Д«usiness-class laptop with no gpu, dedicated graphics. Ditching the gpu will drop prices a lot, but your budget is pretty damn high from my point of view (you could get a fairly beefy gaming computer for like $1,200 if you know where to shop). For that reason, I'd look into a business-class laptop with a strong processor and dedicated graphics, since you don't need a gpu to run CAD or similar programs.

Seeing as how you're going in for engineering, I imagine gaming isn't your primary concern (but I wouldn't be surprised if you were a gamer).
